Services

The services below are offered as a standard.

We are also available to support you with particular problems to do with the biomechanics of both you and your horse to better understand the relationship between muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons  highlighting the importance of both horse & rider being balanced.

Initial dynamic assessment and treatment.

All new horses must have an initial consultation. A full history of the horse will be taken. Static and dynamic analysis will be carried out to highlight any issues. A massage session will then follow, tailored to any issues specific to your horse. To round up the session, a breakdown of findings, aftercare and follow up exercises will be outlined to the owner. These sessions will last between 1 - 2 hours

Maintenance massage

Before engaging in any form of massage, NL Therapy will perform a thorough evaluation to determine the specific needs of the horse. This normally involves all over body touch and palpation. The massage techniques used will vary depending on the unique needs of the horse.

However, we are likely to employ a series of hand movements designed to manipulate soft tissues, particularly muscles. These might include stroking, rubbing, kneading, pounding, clapping, and other applications of pressure. In addition to using one or both hands, we may also use  fingers, knuckles, elbows, or vibrating equipment to stimulate body tissues.

Pre or Post Event Massage

Pre-event massage works in conjunction with your warm-up to help loosen muscles before you get on and reduce risk of injury.

The ideal time for this would be in a 4 hr window before competition.

Post-massage session helps to reduce muscle stiffness and can highlight any issues as a result of competing. It also aids in the removal of lactic acid build up within the muscles.

This ideally should be carried out between 2-4 hr after competition.

Horse & Rider assessed treatment

As a rider you will need to understand the importance of working closely with your horse to improve their suppleness and self-carriage. Once all the normal physical blocks have been taken into account, sometimes you are left with you. We all  know the benefit of having mirrors to track our position and we can act as eyes on the ground to help support you to achieve that balance between you and the horse. After all, you are 50% of the team.

The more balanced you are as a rider, the more balanced your horse will be. Your position, seat and stability will significantly impact on your horse’s ability to move well. I can help highlight any asymmetry and movement imbalance, helping you improve your combined performance and enjoyment of riding.

These sessions will include a ridden part (30 minutes) and massage for your horse.
